National Fantasy Football Draft Day, founded by industry veterans and Fantasy Sports Entertainment & Productions, honors the researchers, risk-takers, commissioners, and waiver-wire wizards behind the $30 billion fantasy sports industry. With over 60 million North American players averaging seven leagues each and some 200 million drafts held annually, the holiday recognizes the draft as the season's centerpiece: the traditions, rivalries, group chats, and community that connect fans.
Fantasy Sports Hall of Famer Rick Wolf, Ed Bunnell, Ian Ritchie, and Bill Enright aligned the inaugural day with a summer slate of events, including the inaugural Draft Nation 2026 festival in Las Vegas (Aug 20-22), which featured 100+ live drafts, VIP experiences, and league meetups.
The day joins a previously established Fantasy Football Draft Day from 2013, which takes place on the last Sunday in August. Fans and leagues are invited to celebrate the newest National Fantasy Football Draft Day every August 21.
