On Friday, July 19th 2024, a major internet outage occurred, causing Windows-based computer systems worldwide to display the infamous Blue Screen of Death. A software update from security firm Crowdstrike crippled machines worldwide across multiple industries, leading to dramatic scenes at airports with monitors showing blue screens and leading to PC's worldwide going into recovery mode.
Social Media sprang into action, declaring the day to be Blue Screen Day, and with the scale of the outage being on par with what had been predicted two decades prior for Y2K (which, thankfully, never happened), this event will be remembered for years to come.
