August 6th is National Paralegal Day (NPD), officially recognized in the U.S. Congressional Record. This milestone reflects a coordinated effort by the American Association for Paralegal Education (AAfPE), NALA -- The Paralegal Association, the National Association for Legal Support Professionals (NALS), and the National Federation of Paralegal Associations (NFPA).
National Paralegal Day was originally observed on October 23, based on the date of Texas Paralegal Day, but it was formally moved to August 6 in 2024. The day itself has origins going all the way back to 1981, when it was established through individual state bar sections across the country.
In 2024, national recognition was read into the Congressional Record, helping unify attention and support for paralegals nationwide. Following that moment, paralegal organizations aligned on a single shared date to celebrate NPD each year--and August 6 became the common day chosen to honor the profession.
